Gorgeous Limoges Cupid & Psyche Pate Sur Pate Porcelain Box Cobalt Blue, Gold
Here is a Gorgeous Limoges "Cupid & Psyche" Pate Sur Pate (layer on layer) Porcelain Box With Cupid & Psyche in beautiful Cobalt Blue and Gold. Pâte-sur-pâte is a French term meaning "paste on paste". It is a method of porcelain decoration in which a relief design is created on an unfired, unglazed body by applying successive layers of white slip (liquid clay) by the artist with a brush. The effect is somewhat similar to other types of relief decoration. However, unlike Jasperware, for example, a mould is not normally used, and the ceramic artist is able to achieve translucency. This Wonderful Pate Sur Pate French Limoges Dresser / Trinket Box has a lovely depiction of Cupid flying to Psyche.
It has Gold flowers in a dark blue background, and is signed b. This Box is approximately 6" in diameter x 2-3/4" tall.
The back is marked/stamped: F. Excellent condition: no chips or cracks.
